This week was a rough week for Joe and me mentally and physically. As you have been reading the past few weeks a run down of our weekly schedule, this one was testing us for sure!
I spent Monday relaxing and getting ramped up for the week knowing that it would be a hard one. Joe spent time trying to physically recover being a 30 year old in a demanding sport such as motocross.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were spent at the track for both of us. Joe spent a day at KTM and one at Competitive Edge, while all my days were spent at CEMX. Joe got to dial in a little more of the KTM to his liking. I got to prepare myself for a very busy weekend with the Gold Cup racing at CEMX.
I had an Executive Board meeting on Wednesday with the rest of the Women’s Motocross/Supercross Foundation members to discuss the rest of this year’s fundraising plans. We are just now planning the 3 rd Annual MotoBowl. If you are a fan of the sport – don’t miss out on it coming in September in Anaheim, California.
Thursday night I cooked my husband’s favorite meal…my late Grandmother’s homemade lasagna. We decided to have a going away party for a good friend of ours that is leaving the warm California weather to go back home to the bitterness of Michigan. We had a houseful of people that night, but enjoyed having the company. We couldn’t stay up too late though, because Joe and Gerald had to leave the house at 4am because their travel agent had scheduled a very early flight to head to Missouri…what can I say – the flight was cheap!
While the weather in California stayed windy and cool, Joe and Gerald traveled to the snow and 20 degree weather of St. Louis. They arrived in time to head to the track and help set up the truck, only to find that the truck had problems on the way and wouldn’t arrive till late that night.
I ended up at the track all day Friday and Saturday trying to control 475 riders and 25 workers. Let me tell you – I thought watching a baby was tough, that was crazy that day! For the most part, everything ran smooth and we ended up having a great turnout for the Gold Cup event.
Saturday at Supercross, Joe wasn’t feeling it. He was struggling to get his race bike working the way he wanted to and couldn’t get comfortable. He ended up casing a jump in the heat race and crashing only to break off his clutch perch. Gerald had to rush and put a new one on before the LCQ. It wasn’t exactly to Joe’s liking and with that being a key factor off the start and on the track, let’s just say Joe didn’t fair too well.
It’s been a struggle for Joe, as many of you know. Things are changing this week and I can only say they will be good for Joe. Look for new things with Joe this weekend…you’ll notice, trust me!
