Well it is Friday again, and it’s off to San Diego. As soon as I arrived at the airport I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Go straight to the beach. Chris Blose ( Honda/Troy Lee rider) and I decided to head to Belmont Park in Mission Beach. I was so excited because the weather seemed just perfect, but as soon as I got out of the truck it started to rain. I was bummed, but had to remind myself I am in San Diego, this was normal. I have to say that San Diego is where my heart is, because I was born there. I moved to Arizona when I was 4 years old, and wanted to go back as soon as I could. This city just fits. It’s relaxing and the people are so friendly!
It was Valentine’s Day on Saturday and what better way for a girl to spend it than Monster Energy® Supercross!? The sun was out with not a cloud in site, but during the track walk and the riders meeting, the clouds randomly decided to roll in making it hard to decide whether I was hot or cold! When I was walking the track I noticed that the starts were going to be crucial. I over heard Jake Moss's mechanic, David Joy, saying that the track seemed hard packed with soft dirt on top. In my opinion, it seemed a little slick, due to Friday’s drizzle.
Saturday afternoon was my time with the fans. These guys where out of control! When I say "out of control" I mean it in a good way. I didn't see that stereotypical "party crowd" I was warned about. I just saw a group of people having a blast on Valentine’s Day. Not to mention I had some secret Valentine’s of my own. These guys knew the way to a girl’s heart - Chocolate! San Diego you guys were amazing. Thanks to everyone who came out and said hello!
Next it was time for opening ceremonies. I was curious to see what if anything special would happen due to the whole Valentine’s Day deal. Chad Reed definitely got some brownie points with his wife, Ellie. After being announced on the podium he had a teddy bear tied to the front of his bike. He rode off with it and handed it to her. SO CUTE!
It was time to get serious. Right off the bat, heat 1 of the lites class, Canard took the win for the first time this season. Main event of the lites class Dungey came out with a bang. He got another holeshot, which led to a victory. Following Dungey was Morais then Weimer. To round off the top 5 was Canard and Sipes with a strong 5th. Dungey is now your new points leader.
Next was the Supercross Class Main Event. This was pretty frustrating for many of the racers, due to all the crashes. Stewart didn't let us down once again. He came out with the holeshot. Broc Hepler came back for his first race after his broken collar bone. Hepler came out strong running 3rd, until Andrew Short took him high in a berm and went down. Broc remounted on his bike and had an unfortunate crash again later in the race, which led him to a DNF. Josh Grant happened to be in the first turn crash, and then later had another hard crash which led him on the backboard of the Asterisk Medical Team. Stewart took top honors with the Main Event win following with the Chad Reed and Andrew Short to round off the top 3.
Sand Diego was a memorable one. Hope to see everyone in Atlanta! Come see me on Saturday I would love to meet everyone :)
