Miss Supercross Casey - Salt Lake City
Casey Edmondson

SALT LAKE CITY

It was the first time in Salt Lake City for me. I knew there was going to be mountains and greenery, but that was an understatement. When I was about to land from my flight, the scenery was insane. There was snow all over the mountains! This made me a little nervous. Could it snow during Supercross? I knew t here was about a 60% chance of rain for Saturday morning. I was anxious to see what would happen.

When I woke up Saturday morning I rushed to my hotel window to see if today was going to be a mud race or not. The ground was soaked and the clouds were super dark! Not to mention, it looked like it was FREEZING outside. I had a positive attitude, because all this meant was there was going to be some crazy racing. I grabbed all my stuff and took off to the stadium.

I got to the stadium and could see the track was still covered. I could also see a mud pit all the way around it. As soon as I got inside the promoter office, it started to sprinkle. The day was beginning. We just had decided earlier in the day that we were not going to do my autograph session due to the weather. I was very sad, considering we were down to the last two rounds of Monster Energy® Supercross.

Around 3:00 I was walking in the pits, on my way to watch practice. I walked past the Official Monster Energy® Merchandise trailer. My heart sank. The cardboard cut out of me was outside the trailer saying I would be there at 3:00 for autographs. I rushed over there and couldn’t believe my eyes. It was pouring down rain, and I had a line of people waiting for me. I felt horrible because I was not even dressed in my Supercross outfit. I was just wearing jeans and a jacket. It really touched my heart to see everyone taking time to meet me. Thank you to everyone who stood out there you guys are crazy!

The clouds were slowly rolling away and sun was coming out as the first lites heat race was walking to the line. The track was a little muddy but for the most part it looked ready. The corners were a little slick and the straightaway was a muddy mess, but the intensity was high. This was the last West Coast Lites race, which meant a championship would be won. Victory went to Jake Weimerin heat 1, who took it with flying colors. For heat two, it was non other than Trey Canard. The Lites main event seemed like the longest race this year! There was just a constant battle between Weimer, Dungey,Canard, Morias, Braiton and Blose. However, it ended with a Championship that went to Ryan Dungey. All that hard work has paid off for him. Ryan Dungey is a true hero. The top 3 for the race were Trey Canard, Jake Weimer and Ryan Morias. Such an awesome race and west coast season for the lites class.

In all my years of watching supercross, I can never remember it being this extreme. In the first heat race, Chad Reed took the victory, but barely held on with the number 18 bike of Davi Millsaps right behind him. Reed had his break lever holding on by a thread! In heat 2, it was James Stewart with the top honor. It was suprising to see Alessi and Grant in the LCQ with only Grant making it to the main! The main event had me jumping up and down. I could not believe the battle going on between James and Chad. For about 11 laps Reed stayed in first. There was some bumping bars between the two, but that’s just good racing. Reed was fighting so hard for this victory, he would not let James pass him. There was a little incident, which called for a black flag with the number 38 bike of Kyle Chisholm. They were claiming that, because Kyle was on Stewarts team that he tried to take out Reed and give James more leg room to take the win. In my opinion, this could have gone either way. We will just have to see if there will be consequences. The top 3 went Stewart, Reed (Now 6 points behind Stewart) and Davi Millsaps. It was a great race overall.

Well, I’m sad yet excited to say that Las Vegas is next weekend. I cannot believe this year is just about over. Lets go out with a BANG and some good racing. Come out and see me if your there! In fact, I better see everyone out there having a good time…whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
